Summary: Under general direction, incumbent(s) completes the painting services for the District, including preparing and painting surfaces, completing and tracking work orders, determining painting methods and types of paint to use, and examining facilities to identify painting and other maintenance needs. Incumbent(s) performs preventative maintenance and monitors inventory of painting equipment.
Essential Functions:
- Completes maintenance work requests by reviewing work orders, determining number of hours used to complete job, determining tools, equipment and chemicals, establishing safety precautions, and documenting the results after project is completed.
- Paints various surfaces such as buildings, parking lot markings, floors, steps, courts, sidewalks and equipment for the purpose of ensuring District facilities are in a safe, comfortable, and operating condition. Removes or paints over graffiti in order to minimize vandalism and maintain district buildings attractive.
- Prepares various surfaces such as cleaning, sanding, patching, masking, and sand blasting for the purpose of ensuring that the surfaces are ready for painting or refinishing.
- Determines painting method depending on surfaces by analyzing surfaces, deciding types of paint to use, identifying color schemes, mixing paint to match colors, and determines when and what primers to use.
- Performs preventative maintenance on painting equipment, tools, and chemicals by cleaning, storing, and fixing equipment to ensure equipment is in a safe and operating condition. Performs cleanup at the end of the day or when the job is completed to ensure area is safe including cleaning spills, picking up tools, cleaning area where job was completed and performing touch up work as needed.
- Examines District facilities to identify exterior paint and caulk deterioration, damaged surfaces, and leaking roofs. Determines control strategies to maintain surfaces of District facilities.
- Monitors inventory of tools, equipment, paint, and chemicals for painting purposes. Requests tools, equipment, paint, and chemicals for purchase to ensure inventory is stocked and available.
- Trains facility managers and other maintenance staff on appropriate painting methods and techniques. Notifies facility managers on surfaces that needs to be maintained.
- Performs other duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.
- High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired;
- Three years of painting experience;
- Valid Arizona Department of Transportation Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications:
It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.
- Two years of working experience in a public school district.
