Summary:    Positions work independently and are responsible for performing the technical tasks of analysis, design, development, testing and product implementation for the creation and maintenance of computer applications supporting K-8 education in the District.

 

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Utilizes third and fourth generation programming languages to develop application and specialized software from program specifications.  Creates and maintains routines for the effective interaction of the application with the client and the clients' hardware, as well as performing specialized tasks.
  • Provides continuous maintenance for the application and specialized software developed by troubleshooting problems, being aware of and communicating program deficiencies and continually seeking methods to improve program delivery.
  • Tests new or modified software to determine operational effectiveness, accuracy and efficiency. Recommends correction of deficiencies as required.
  • Writes and maintains technical documentation throughout all phases of the software development life cycle.
  • Evaluates third party products to determine if it will meet the clients' needs, and if it is compatible with the current application.  Develops method of integrating the third party product into the current application
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

 

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications.  Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

 

  • Associate’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related field;
  • Two years of computer science or information systems experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related field.

Skills required, but not limited to, for this position include:

 

  • Applying procedures and processes involved in designing, developing, testing and debugging business and education application software;
  • Knowing database administration and relational database design;
  • Experience using or supporting the Student Information Systems business application suite.
  • Understanding Windows platforms;
  • Knowing Microsoft programming languages;
  • Experience using or supporting the WinSnap application.
  • Understanding operation of on-line data communications network including control messages, errors, and recovery procedures;
  • Analyzing business information and task flows to determine the best solution to meet the clients' needs;
  • Writing application software using third and fourth generation languages;
  • Preparing clear, concise and informative written reports, correspondence, memorandums and documentation.
  • Working effectively as a member of a team and applying consensus decision making techniques;
  • Making effective oral presentations clearly conveying technical information to non-technical audiences;
  • Organizing tasks and working independently to meet deadlines with minimal supervision;
  • Handling difficult and sensitive situations utilizing good judgment;
  • Using computer-related software applications;
  • Engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
