Summary: Under direct supervision, incumbent(s) assists with the food preparation, prepares and cleans the kitchen, serves meals appropriately, and assists with the inventory and the point of sales.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Assists in food preparation to include, but not limited to, breakfast, lunch, field trips, and food bars. Follows recipes and measures required amounts of food and ingredients. Determines the appropriate equipment and appliances to use.
  • Performs cleanup to include, but not limited to, dishwashing, cleaning tables and preparation areas, cleaning equipment and appliances, taking apart and reassembling equipment, and disposing of unsalvageable food and removing garbage from the kitchen.
  • Serves food including arranging food on trays, keeping food at appropriate temperatures, and apportioning serving sizes based on the requirements determined by the National School Meal Program.
  • Assists the food service clerks by operating the Point of Sale terminal, counting and distributing money, and preparing the daily deposits.
  • Assists food service managers in various tasks such as taking inventory, placing food and non-food item orders, and checking in and storing orders.Actively participates in professional development activities that are provided by the District and/or by professional development organizations.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications.  Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

 

  • Valid food handler’s license within thirty days of hire.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired;
  • One year of food service experience;
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish language.

  • Knowing food safety and HACCP procedures;
  • Engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold (non-weather); extreme heat (non-weather) and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
