Summary:

 

Under general direction, incumbent(s) is responsible for providing support to school-based Library Media Specialists for daily library operations, management of textbook materials and technology. Incumbant(s) serves as a district liaison for school-based Library Media Specialists and facilitates district communication to this group of employees. Incumbant also serves on the Library Cadre to provide input for planning and facilitating professional learning for this group of employees in school library management, and inventory and processing of instructional materials.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Serves on Library Cadre, providing input into planning and facilitating professional development in school library management for monthly Library Media Specialists’ meetings. Includes monthly planning meetings with the Library Cadre.
  • Coordinates inventory and processing of instructional materials with school-based Library Media Specialists and the district warehouse to ensure timely distribution of instructional materials to schools, as needed, based on staffing.
  • When a school(s) has a vacant Library Media Specialist position, the District Lead Library Media Specialist will provide part-time support to the school for the completion of school library, textbook/teacher curriculum, and technology tasks outlined in School-based Library Media Specialist job description, until the school fills the vacancy.
  • Supports school-based library Library Media Specialists in management and completion of library or textbook projects including but not limited to: reorganization of library collections, weeding outdated, worn, or inaccurate materials from the library collection, locating ‘missing’ teacher curriculum and reconstructing curriculum sets, cataloging new books.
  • Assists school-based Library Media Specialists by:
    • Recommending books and other materials appropriate to student grade level, student interests, and to support assigned projects.
    • Recommending resources for how to introduce students to quality literature, information literacy and research skills during scheduled class time in the library.
    • Coaching in how to analyze and evaluate the library collection and materials by examining Destiny reports regarding collection age, content, and use.
    • Researching and recommending to school-based Library Library Media Specialists new books to purchase, supplies, furniture, and equipment necessary to the optimal functioning of the library.
    • Coaching in how to support teacher/staff use of classroom technology, e.g. how to assist teachers with operation of equipment, basic problem troubleshooting, and posting/sharing related information
  • Provides Destiny Library Management training to new Library Media Specialists and serves as Funcitonal Leader for Destiny, responding to daily calls from schools for Destiny support.
  • Provides on-site training and organizes peer coaching for new Library Media Specialists.
  • Assist Library Media Specialists with technical support issues, especially related to Chromebooks and hotspots.
  • Serves on the Academic Services CurrTech Committee.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications.  Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

 

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.),
  • Minimum 3 years full-time experience as a school-based library tech or Library Media Specialist

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

 

  • One year of experience working in a public library.
