Summary: Under general direction and collaboration, incumbent(s) is responsible for coordination and facilitation of supporting both novice and experienced teachers to ensure the retention of competent and valued professional teaching staff.  Responsibilities will include providing coordination of teacher induction programs as well as assisting campus leadership teams with identifying necessary learning opportunities and coaching for teachers. In addition to understanding effective, research-based teacher induction and development standards and delivery models, the Coordinator of Teacher Support will demonstrate knowledge of the skills necessary to meet the needs of diverse learners. The ability to effectively determine professional learning needs through the use of data is essential. The goal of this position is to make significant contributions to improving student achievement by designing, delivering and promoting high quality teacher induction and support in order to meet the district’s high expectations for each student, teacher and administrator.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate and lead the WESD BEGIN new teacher induction program including training of program cadre leaders and mentors, program development and collection of program evaluation data
  • Coordinates, facilitates and delivers teacher and administrator induction training intended to attract and retain employees by providing support, strategies, knowledge, and mentoring through observations, coaching, small group dialogue, training, and reflection.
  • Effectively utilize student data to identify the coaching and professional development needs of classroom teachers.
  • Coaches, support and models for teachers effective instructional practices in classrooms
  • Coordinates, plans and organizes professional development for school instructional coaches.
  • Collaborates with campus administrators to provide support and coaching for school instructional coaches.
  • Identifies the training and professional development needs of new instructional coaches; seeks out presenters to support the PD needs; plans and delivers the training and professional development.
  • Communicate with university supervisors and coordinators regarding student teachers progress and professional development needs; assists campus administration in the observation and evaluation of student teachers for hiring potential
  • Collaborate with District and campus instructional coaches and leadership teams to identify and develop support plans for teachers who are in need of additional support with instructional practices or student relationship and management.
  • Support classroom teachers on the effective use of data to identify the needs of individual students and effective intervention and instructional strategies to support student learning.
  • Collect and analyze induction survey and retention data to determine practices that may positively influence the recruitment and retention of high quality educators.
  • Developes in collaboration with the campus administration staff and oversees the coaching of  teachers on improvement plans, teachers who request assistance and/or  designated for assistance by principal, with a focus on teachers at low-achieving, struggling schools.  Assists the principals in evaluating the progress of the teachers on improvement plans.
  • Participates and facilitates various district committees, councils, and employee groups that impact the attraction, retainment and improvement of highly qualified teachers, with emphasis on the most struggling schools.
  • Performs other duties as required

Required Qualifications:

 

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications.  Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education;
  • Three years teaching experience in a public school district;
  • Two years experience providing professional development for adults;
  • Valid Arizona Department of Education Teacher Certificate;
  • Valid Arizona Department of Education Supervisory Certificate.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and/or Educational Curriculum and Instruction;
  • Documented evidence of facilitation skills utilized with groups and/or committees.
