CLASS SUMMARY: Under general direction, incumbent(s) maintains the District’s plumbing by maintaining, installing, and updating current equipment including, but not limited to, water pipes, sewer pipes, drains, wash basins, drinking fountains, etc. Incumbent(s) tests and repairs backflow assemblies, reads schematic drawings, technical manuals, specifications, and manufactures technical updates. Incumbent also provides ongoing training to facility managers on lower level tasks pertaining to maintenance and preventive maintenance of plumbing components.

1.        

Installs, maintains, and repairs a variety of restroom fixtures (e.g. multistation washbasins, single station washbasins, infrared sensor operated washbasins, drinking fountains, etc.) for the purposes of ensuring units are operating safely and correctly.   Diagnoses and repairs problems and/or failures in a wide variety of equipment (e.g. water heaters, boilers, water circulation pumps, backflow assemblies, check valves, etc.) for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and replacement needs. Performs routine and preventive maintenance for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing functioning of required tools and equipment.

2.        

Maintains tools and/or equipment to ensure that they are in safe operating condition. Demonstrates ability to soder metal parts as needed and/or assigned (e.g. cut, shape and assemble replacement parts, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently. Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with health and safety regulations. Assists other trades personnel as required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

3.        

Oversees the District’s plumbing equipment including the evaluation of current equipment. Participates in short and long term capital planning, maintains contact with vendors to review needs and outcomes of inspections, and identifies and resolves related problems.

4.        

Records and submits all required job task information to include materials, labor hours, and ‘action taken’ on District work order system. Reviews assigned tasks with supervisor to determine status of outstanding work orders.

5.        

Performs periodic and random inspections of plumbing equipment. Maintains and records inspection reports and advises supervisor of deficiencies and remedial efforts to improve deficiencies.

6.        

Develops, updates, and maintains posted operating instructions for some plumbing equipment.   Coordinates technical writing and placement of instructions at District facilities with standards set forth by supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. In addition, verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

 

  • Possesses credential(s) from an accredited trades school or holds Journeyman’s License;
  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired;
  • Four years of verifiable plumbing experience with continuously increasing technical responsibilities;
  • Valid Arizona Department of Transportation Driver’s License prior to hire.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

 

  • Seven years of verifiable plumbing experience with continuously increasing technical responsibilities;
  • Possesses certified backflow assembly tester certification an accredited institution;
  • Valid Arizona Department of Transportation Commercial Driver’s License prior to hire.

  • Setting up and maintaining records;
  • Using computer software related programs;
  • Engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
