CLASS SUMMARY: Under general direction, incumbent(s) supervises teacher candidates, assists with planning and developing of lesson plans/ activities, ensures quality instruction is delivered, maintains discipline, and evaluates student’s development.  In addition, incumbent(s) provides teacher candidate evaluations, meets and works cooperatively with parents, and prepares administrative paperwork required for the program.

  Establishes high expectations for student performance and provides motivation, management, instruction, guidance, and support to assist teacher candidates and WESD students to meet those expectations. Provides general site-based orientation for teacher candidates from local colleges and universities.  Provides ongoing feedback to assist teacher candidates and completes required teacher candidate evaluations. Daily

  Works cooperatively with principal, site coordinator and data experts to target students and meet the individual needs of the students.  Ensures that quality intervention is provided to identified students. Mentors teacher candidates to refine and adjust instruction to meet the individual needs of WESD students. Oversees regular progress monitoring by maintaining Student Portfolios. Daily

  Assists in developing written lesson plans and activities for the after school programs by using a variety of instructional materials and techniques and to meet the needs of the students. Assists teacher candidates in effectively utilizing a computer based program SuccessMaker for a portion of class each day and other district approved curricular materials. Daily

  Manages classroom instruction for multiple groups of students with ratio of one teacher candidate to ten WESD students. Provides constant supervision of volunteer teacher candidates. Provides a hospitable environment for teacher candidates to learn and grow. Daily

  Maintains accurate attendance records. Prepares administrative paperwork or program reporting requirements. Oversee the completion of survey data on students.   Assists in maintaining records for teacher candidate hours and signs off on final records. Daily

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications.  In addition, verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education;
  • One year of teaching experience;
  • Valid Arizona Department of Education Teacher Certificate.
