Summary:
In general, incumbent(s) provides interpretation between parents, community members, and school personnel. Incumbent(s) translates education-related documents and maintains specialized glossary.
Essential Functions:
- Translates education-related documents including forms, urgent communications to parents, notices of medical matters, legal and confidential matters, handbooks, advisories, surveys, school newsletters, and other District materials.
- Provides consecutive interpretation between staff and parents in school meetings including Individual Education Plan (IEP), Multi-Disciplinary Conferences (MDC), parent/teacher conferences, and other conferences that occur between parents, community members and school personnel to enable them to participate in the process.
- Performs clerical duties such as answering telephone calls, greeting visitors, answering general questions, opening and sorting mail, creating purchase order requisitions, and verifying and preparing invoices and stipends for payment.
- Makes copies and maintains filing system for translated materials and temporary employee pool.
- Edits translations performed by other District employees. Assists in training of District employees and consultants that perform translation services for schools.
- Creates and maintains databases with information on temporary employee pool including evaluation results, hours worked, training status, and other related data.

- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Required Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.
- High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired;
- Bilingual proficiency in English and target language.
Preferred Qualifications:
It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.
- Two years of translating in an education related system;
- Bachelor’s degree in a target language, translations, and/or international studies.

Skills required, but not limited to, for this position include:
- Understanding education terminology;
- Understanding due process terminology;
- Knowing connotations within English and specified language;
- Demonstrating fluency in specified language to enable interpretation/explanation of concepts as well as translation;
- Operating headset and speaker equipment;
- Demonstrating the ability in specified language that exceeds conversational level enabling constituency with limited English language ability to participate fully in the identified process;
- Operating various computer software programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel;
- Engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
