Summary:  Under general direction, incumbent(s) provides ongoing support to junior high education instructional personnel delivering services to gifted students, including development of curriculum and the modification or adaptation of curriculum to meet students’ needs, demonstration of instructional procedures, strategies and techniques, and the provision of classroom management strategies along with individual behavioral interventions.

 Essential Functions:

  • Coaches individual teachers who request or require assistance with modification/adaptation of curriculum/instructional strategies, development and implementation of behavioral interventions; and modifications to the classroom environment for high-ability and high potential students at multiple locations.
  • Ensures that student specific needs for challenge and differentiation are consistently met related to gifted identification area (s), including positive behavioral supports for struggling or twice exceptional students.  Provides assistance with the coordination of identification, referral and placement process in advanced classes consistent with district policies and procedures.
  • Provides ongoing inservice to teachers and building staff on differentiation and gifted education instructional best practices. 
  • Monitors and measures student growth and impact of teacher training and differentiation support. Provides evidence of student achievement to teachers and administration.
  • Supports FLEX Program teachers with collaborative discussion and planning for students’ academic and social emotional needs.
  • Prepares and presents professional development activities and events that support school personnel, including District curricula, instruction, assessments, the school improvement process, and related professional developmental plans.
  • Actively participates in professional development activities that are provided by the district and/or by professional development organizations.
  • Provide consultation to principals and teachers regarding programs and services involving complex issues including parental concerns regarding programs and services.
  • Performs other job realted duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

 

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications.  Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

  • Valid Arizona Department of Education Gifted endorsement
  • Five years of verified teaching experience with gifted students in grades 6-8
  • Valid Arizona Department of Education Teacher Certificate

Preferred Qualifications:

 

It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

  • Documented experience with gifted education consultation, staff training and program development.
  • Masters degree in education

  • Displaying a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments and a commitment to quality services;
  • Encouraging and facilitating cooperation, pride, and trust;
  • Engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
