Required Qualifications:                 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education;
  • Three years of special education teaching experience;
  • Valid Arizona Department of Education Special Education Teacher Certificate.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Education;
  • Supervisory Certification;
  • Multiple years of experiences in a variety of special education settings;
  • Multiple years of school teacher leadership;
  • Multiple years of district-level teacher leadership responsibilities;
  • One-year Special Education Professional Development trainer.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Oversees/Manages Student IEPs
    • BIPs (assists with and ensures they are created/followed)
    • Compliance
  • Actively participates in professional development activities provided by the district and creates and delivers professional development activities for their program site or by professional development organizations
  • Oversees Support Room data
  • Coaches/Models behavior and instructional delivery for teachers and assistants
  • Oversees grade level curriculum, planning and delivery to ensure teachers make data and compliance-driven instructional decisions
  • Ensures weekly class meetings occur (attend as many as possible)
  • Facilitates team building activities with staff
  • Regularly meets with District and Site Administration
  • Builds relationships/meets with Administration, General Education teachers, Social Workers, etc. on campus
  • Meets with District and Site Administration regularly
  • Monitors and analyzes program-wide behavioral and instructional data
  • Communicates and build relationships with parents, students and outside agencies
  • Evaluates Lead Assistants and assists teachers to evaluate their Instructional Assistants
  • Monitors IEP meetings to ensure procedural norms and district expectations are followed
  • Facilitates transitional meetings
    • Intake meetings
    • Outgoing/Junior High
  • Completes observations and communication of potential incoming students through SSPC
  • Prepares data and attends district SSPC meetings
  • Utilize PBIS
  • Adheres to WESD confidentiality guidelines

  • Possessing knowledge of IDEA regulations and compliance procedures, including timelines, paperwork, transition services effective IEP team meetings;
  • Applying facilitation skills;
  • Demonstrating knowledge of District curricula, assessment, and instructional programs;
  • Demonstrating skills with computer applications;
  • Managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines;
  • Applying presentation techniques;
  • Understanding and applying professional development strategies;
  • Applying standard troubleshooting strategies;
  • Understanding lesson plan design;
  • Possessing knowledge of State standards and district curriculum;
  • Demonstrating use of technology for instructional support;
  • Engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
