CLASS SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Printing Services Manager, fulfill day-to-day operations related to the front-end operations of the Printshop, including customer service, project management, operating and maintaining industrial copy machines, duplicator machines, bindery and finishing equipment and assisting with other functions as needed.  In addition, responds to questions regarding status of print orders, timeframes for completion, and billing information.  Performs general clerical functions including answering telephone calls, maintaining and filing print service records, entering data, monitoring inventory of supplies, and scheduling service calls for the Printing Services copiers. Also have an understanding of direct-to-garment printing, including pretreating, taking inventory of blank garments, and embroidery.

1.        

Operates and maintains industrial copy and duplicator machines.  Program copy machines for prepress functions. Review incoming orders and set up simple files for print production as needed, while understanding the importance of brand standards and assisting clients with adhering to the WESD brand. Log jobs in order to track status and to maximize productivity.

2.        

Assist with various production, bindery, and finishing tasks when necessary, such as: shrink wrapping, cutting, collating, padding, hydraulic drilling, folding, spiral bound books, laminating, stitching, and strapping boxes. Determines equipment to use depending on type of binding needed to support the bindery tech.

3.        

Answers telephone and greets District staff and outside entities for Printing Services.

Take inventory of blank shirts for production. Pre-treating for DTG garment printing and help with embroidery overflow when needed.

Follow-up on customer orders placed, resolves problems, monitors inventory supplies for copiers. File old job tickets and customer art in our file system.

Performs preventive maintenance by checking fuser oil and dry ink levels, clean glass surfaces and sensors, check paper levels, and clear paper jams. Coordinate repairs by calling vendor and troubleshoot over the phone for minor repairs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications.  In addition, verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired;
  • One year of work experience in the operation of moderate to highly sophisticated print and bindery equipment; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

 

  • Three years of work experience in the printing industry.

·         Using computer software related programs, including Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office;

  • Performing routine maintenance of production publishing equipment;
  • Making basic mathematical calculations to accurately complete orders;
  • Knowing types of supplies used in a print shop;
  • Engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
