Summary:   Under general direction, incumbent plans routes for pick up and delivery of school children to District schools or other school related events.  Arranges and schedules activities and field trips by collaborating with school and district personnel and scheduling staff and fleet vehicles. May be required to work a split shift. In addition, incumbent maintains field trip software, prepares and tracks invoices, and serves as a reserve bus driver.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Under general direction, incumbent plans routes for pick up and delivery of school children to District schools, school related events, and coordinates charter bus service.  Arranges and schedules activities and field trips by collaborating with school and district personnel and scheduling staff and fleet vehicles.  In addition, incumbent maintains field trip software, prepares and tracks invoices, and serves as a reserve bus driver.
  • Maintains field trip software, tracks activities and field trips, troubleshooting data, and identifies and corrects any errors.  Generates reports for transportation personnel and posts daily and weekly reports for staff.
  • Communicates with school staff and transportation employees.
  • Generates and distributes directions for the assigned activity or field trip to applicable transportation staff.  Maintains contact with transportation staff and monitors location and time status of fleet and staff.  Incumbent is available and monitors the two-way radio when field trip buses or sports buses are on the road after hours.
  • Prepares and distributes invoices to applicable schools and ensures payment receipt.  Maintains records of activity trips, assists with data entry, and the preparation of the 100th day report.
  • Serves as a reserve bus driver to include transporting students to and from school, conducting pre-trip inspections of buses, ensuring buses are safe and presentable, maintaining discipline, and preparing incident documents when appropriate. 
  • Performs other duties as required.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications.  Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired;
  • One year of school bus driving experience;
  • Possession of Arizona Department of Transportation Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and school bus endorsement.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

 

  • Three years of school transportation experience;
  • Three years of dispatcher and/or activity coordination experience;
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish language.
