Summary:  Under general direction, incumbent(s) provides ongoing support to special and general education instructional personnel delivering services to special education students, including development of curriculum and the modification or adaptation of curriculum to meet students’ needs, demonstration of instructional procedures, strategies and techniques, and the provision of classroom management strategies along with individual behavioral interventions.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Coaches individual teachers/paraprofessionals (regular and special education) who request or require assistance with modification/adaptation of curriculum/instructional strategies, development and implementation of behavioral interventions; and modifications to the classroom environment.
  • Faciliates the activities of the school's special education support team to ensure that student specific IEPs are developmentally or functionally appropriate consistent with Arizona Learning Standards to include the provision of positive behavioral supports.  Provide assistance with the coordination of identification, referral and placement process consistent with district policies and procedures.
  • Provide ongoing inservice to teachers and building staff on special education policy, procedures, and instructional best practices related to special education.
  • Prepares and presents professional development activities and events that support school personnel, including District curricula, instruction, assessments, the school improvement process, and related professional developmental plans.
  • Actively participates in professional development activities that are provided by the district and/or by professional development organizations.
  • Provide consultation to principals and the director of special services regarding programs and services involving controversial, sensitive and/or complex issues including parental concerns regarding programs and services.
  • Performs other duties as required.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications.  Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

 

  • Master’s degree in Special Education or related field;
  • Three years of teaching experience;
  • Valid Arizona Department of Education Teacher Certificate.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

 

  • Documented experience with special education consultation, staff training and program development.
